Presents Of Mind: Talking Holiday Gifts With Style Experts Gabby & Danielle Prescod

Gift-giving season is upon us, so we’re calling on some of our friends in the know to share their best tips. Enter: sisters Gabby and Danielle Prescod. Gabby, a senior fashion market editor at Bustle, and Danielle, a style director and content creator, told us all about their holiday traditions, favorite kinds of gifts and more—plus, they picked out the presents they’re giving (and hoping to get) from our gift guide.
Hi Gabby, hi Danielle! Are you excited for the holiday season?
Danielle: I love the holidays! It’s really big in our
family. We love gift giving, spending time together, eating the food, for
sure. [laughs] I just love the whole thing.
Gabby: We play tennis as a family too. Every Thanksgiving
we have this tradition called the Turkey Shootout, where we all play against
each other—it’s the best.
Let’s take a little trip down memory lane and talk gifts you gave each
other as kids.
Danielle: Our school used to have this fair—trinkets,
picture frames, little tchotchkes, things like that. As a kid, you can’t
just go to the mall and buy your family presents, so one year we both went,
separately, and we got each other—
Gabby: —the saaaame thing! [laughs]
Danielle: Yup, the same fairy figurine thing!
[laughs]
Gabby: A fairy on a little bird fountain. Somehow we both
knew the other would love it.
Aww, that’s the cutest! How about now—what’re you going to give and
hoping to get this year?
Danielle: I don’t really need much. I love getting workout
classes or experiences. But my mom is big into wanting us to
open something.
Gabby: Yeah—when we were younger, we were very into
getting the gifts, but now I’m more into giving them.
What makes a present really great?
Danielle: I think an element of surprise is really
important, and also just customizing it to the person. I like to listen to
people and think about what I would gift them. I’m obsessed with it. Gifting
is a huge love language of mine, y’know?
Gabby: Yeah, I agree. I love when someone opens a gift and
they’re like, “Oh my god, I haven’t thought about this in so long!”
Thoughtfulness is key. Or get something for the home, ’cause I love a candle
too.
Danielle: Yes! I love little things. I got all my friends
seashells this year. I went on a solo trip to Jamaica and just went around
the beach collecting the prettiest shells.
Gabby: For sure. It doesn’t have to be a big, over-the-top
gift to be special.
Thanks for the tips, ladies. Check out Danielle and Gabby’s personal picks from our gift guide below.
