How To: Turn Yourself Into A Morning Person (Or At Least Fake It)
Get this: You can be happier, calmer and a zillion times more productive starting tomorrow, before you even leave the house. And with a few simple tweaks, you can turn yourself into a morning person (or a morning-ish person). Here, Team Madewell shares their tips—hot lemon water, solo dance parties and really great pajamas included.
“Read a chapter of a book in bed before getting up. It feels oddly luxurious to ease into your day like that. And drink hot lemon water.” —Caroline
“Before you get out of bed, send one ‘hi I miss you how are you’ text to someone. Anyone. Cheesy, but a little intentional gratitude will give you good vibes that stay with you at least through brushing your teeth.” —Grace
“You totally can learn to adore mornings, in my opinion. A great way to start is setting a song as an alarm and letting it play through. D’Angelo’s ‘Really Love’ is just. so. good. Dance, do your hair, whatever floats your boat.” —Michelle
“Put ground coffee into the French press at night. When you wake up, all you have to do is boil water and plunge.” —Marcy
“I make a to-do list even on Saturdays. I try to exercise, do laundry and visit the farmers market all before 9. It opens my whole day up to whatever activities might be ahead.” —Kelci
And, of course, a whole lotta advice on getting dressed…
“My trick is to try to minimize actual ‘morning person’ time and get myself out the door and to the office as quickly as possible. So if I know I have to walk the dog in the morning, I sleep in something comfy (that I also wouldn’t be too embarrassed to wear on a stroll through the neighborhood) so that I can throw on shoes and take him out without having to actually get dressed. ” —Jayna (Editor’s note: For any dog moms out there, our new Sleep collection is just the thing.)
“Define your ‘slept in’ outfit and always make sure some version of it is laundered for days when you just can’t resist the snooze button.” —Jess
