#Wellheeled Ladies We Love: Dog Walker Jenna Veal
Next up in our series featuring ladies whose style keeps us on our toes (and whose jobs have them on their feet) is Jenna Veal. As both a dog walker for My Dog Hikes and a dancer, she’s all about staying comfy without compromising poise and grace. Read on for her neighborhood tour, go-to outfits, dog walking details and more.
Hi, Jenna! Tell us about yourself—what do you do, where do you live?
Hi! I work for My Dog Hikes as a walker and sitter. I take care of dogs all around the city but mostly in my neighborhood—Chelsea, in Manhattan. I’ve been in NYC for almost four years now and moved here to dance professionally.
Let’s do a walking tour of your neighborhood. What are your favorite spots for…
Dancing:
Steps on Broadway
Going for a stroll: Along the Hudson River
Sunbathing: On my roof
Recharging: The High Line for people watching
Catching up with friends:
American Whiskey
OK, so you might have the best job ever. How did you get involved with My Dog Hikes?
I agree! I mentioned to my neighbor, Sophie, that I missed animals a ton after moving from my home in North Carolina where I had three dogs and two cats. She introduced me to the founder, Andrea, and I thought it was so cool that she takes dogs hiking. I applied for the job and when we met for my interview we knew it was meant to be. We share a huge love for animals and the outdoors and I’m so grateful that she brought me onto her team.
You’re on your feet constantly for work, of course. What kinds of shoes do you like to wear to stay comfy?
This job is rain or shine, all year round, and really wears you out by the end of the day. I wear sneakers a lot or sandals as long as they are comfy and supportive.
Now about the rest of the look—do you have a go-to outfit for exploring with pups?
It’s awesome in the summer because I get to soak up a lot of sun, so shorts, a tank top and plenty of SPF. Plus sunglasses, of course!
How would you describe your personal style?
Romantic and bohemian. I love anything flowy, but it also has to be durable since I’m so active. When I’m not working, you can find me in a sundress and a bathing suit, probably headed to the beach!
If you could spend a day in somebody else’s shoes, who would you choose and why?
Baby from the original Dirty Dancing—so I could dance with Patrick Swayze.
Thanks for the chat, Jenna. Your turn—go ahead and shoes your story.
