Was a little apprehensive to order these final sale, but they're a great classic black boot. Material and cut are high quality. Love that the ankle is not tapered and the width is the same from the to knee to foot. I'm 5'6" and the top of the boot hits in the perfect spot just below the knee. The only thing I don't like is that they make your feet look a little long. If ordered again I may go 1/2 size down, but was worried I'd have trouble getting them on (since there's no zipper or stretch). Regardless, very satisfied with this purchase.

I literally waited for FOUR years until I found the perfect boot - one that I would not mind spending a good amount of $ on. These are IT. Quality&style. Comfortable and just perfect for those of us who like classic, sleek, simple, and minimal looks. Girly and moto/tough girl looking. I wear with everything! Boho dress, denim, leggings, all! You do need to break them in obviously for a day or two but since they are real leather, they are officially made-well to fit MY legs perfectly. I actually broke them in at a dude ranch riding horses! Then, wiped them off and wore them to dinner looking classic, classy, and rad. I have never purchased from madewell and would again and again. I recommend madewell for real. *I am a real person who really hates writing reviews. That's how perfect these boots are! I had to let you all know!!

I had been looking for the right black boot for a long time. This one is perfect. Its perfect for a casual look, and could be dressed up too. I generally wear a size 7 and these are true to size. The only con is, I am 5'4, these are almost over the knee on me. I like the way they look but they are almost too tall for my height. Overall very happy with them and recommend. Already getting a lot of compliments!

I have finally found the perfect, classic riding boot style in a beautiful, soft leather. I ordered my regular 8M size and they fit perfectly. I'm 5'5" and they top off at the bottom of my knee. I have medium-to-slim calves, and the shaft width is close enough for wearing with bare legs, but roomy enough to wear with pants & socks underneath. Needless to say, the circumference measurement listed on the website is wrong. It is NOT 22 3/4"!!. This boot measures 13" around at the ankle and 15" at the calf. There are pull tabs, and the top 2" is notched at the back. Perfect, classic boot. LOVE!

As a petite girl (5'2, 105 pounds) I took a gamble on these after reading reviews but couldn't resist the price during an extra % off promo. I can see why some ladies are not happy with the boots - if you're looking for something more tailored & structured to your legs then don't buy this. I think these have a bit of a modern and casual look as the leg shaft goes straight down to the ankle instead of being fitted throughout the ankle - I have skinny legs so I actually think it looks nice this way - it's sort of like an oversized style and elongates my legs (it's like a cocoon coat for your feet?). To be honest, I wouldn't buy these full priced or even at the current sale price. I only justify buying these boots as a good deal bc i purchased them on sale with extra % promo as the one down side is that, like most girls, since these hit in the middle of my knee cap, it has he tendency to create a slight a buckled appearance.

Jan 16, 2018Great style and easy to break-in but still not comfortable :(
I looked for a simple black boot for a LONG time and hoped this would be the one. It looks so great, but isn't proportional in two areas: - Shaft height: I'm 5'1" and this boot hits at the knee. Normally, boots are an inch or two below the knee. The extra height not only makes it harder to bend my knees, but it also makes me look much shorter. - Toe box: The boot is really tight in the toes -- not from a width perspective, but from a height perspective. I've never had this problem before, so I didn't expect it and hoped that after a few days, I could break the boot in to be more comfortable. No such luck and it's been about two weeks. After walking around, my toes actually get a bit red from rubbing against the top of the boot. So, my search continues. Again, beautiful boot, but the sizing is off by just enough to make these boots really uncomfortable.

I was very excited to find these boots and couldnāt wait till I received them. I am 5ā2 and they are just too long. The hit me at a funny spot at the knee and it digs in the back of my knee when I walk.... very disappointing!! Madewell please make one for shorter girls!

It was too high for me. I'm only 5'2'' so the knee part was uncomfortable and didn't look right. It probably would look great on taller girls. The actual shoe seems very comfortable though. The leather in the shaft area was a bit too thin for the price in my opinion. Still waiting on the Archive Boot from 5-6 years back to make a return.

Dec 02, 2017BRING BACK THE ARCHIVE BOOT!!!
I have the Archive Boot and the Watchtower. Love both! Needed some new boots after I donated the Archive Boot (got a good 7 years out of them). Wanted to buy a new pair, but they are sold out. Though I would try these out... This came way too high right, behind the knee.. Like between an over-the-knee-boot and a knee-high boot.. it was an awkward length, poking right under the patella, super uncomfortable. I think the Archive and Watchtower are an inch shorter. Miss the Archive Boot. Definitely not the same! Hope they bring the Archive back.. and in more colors!
