I've been coveting this tote for awhile. Couldn't decide on the smooth leather or textured. After feeling out both in the store, I went with the textured leather. It has a softer, more pliable leather feel. This bag is huge! I use this for business trips and will fit my small laptop, kindle, wallet, water bottle, snacks, etc. One thing to note, I got this monogrammed and went with the embossing. I wish I would've gone with the gold foil instead...you can barely see the embossing against the textured leather.

I got the black textured transport tote on sale w/monogram.. I was honestly a little hesitant because I wasn't sure about the textured but I am so glad I did! I have slightly stalked the transport tote for the last 2+ years and have always wanted solid black but have been waiting for a sale at the right time. I debated the monogram (no returns) but am also so glad I went with it, I got gold foil and it looks great! When the bag arrived I had two surprises: 1) it was way heavier than I expected. I have tried on countless transport totes in store and for some reason, this one feels heavier. I am not sure if this is a thing. But that is why I rated it 4/5 for comfort because its a little heavy by itself and then you start putting stuff in and well... 2) The leather is WAY nicer than I expected. When I pulled it out, I was like whoa... Like it seriously looks so nice, the leather is beautiful!!!!

The leather is scrumptious (I got it in all black), and although it has some 'heft' to it, this to me feels like a bag that stands the test of time, and all the mess that colder weather brings with it. After reading the recommendations on the Madewell Blog, I opted to pre-treat the leather, and will start hauling the tote everywhere in earnest as soon as there's a noticeable chill in the air. Looking forward to winter exploits with this bag. If it holds up well, I'll carry it into Spring and early summer. Thanks, Madewell!

Jan 27, 2015I love this bag more than I love my boyfriend.
I had wanted a transport tote for at least a year and a half, but didn't take the plunge until this bag was on sale in the fall. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the perfect bag. Big enough to fit my 15 inch macbook, emergency gloves/hat/umbrella, notebook and lunch. The straps do dig in a little when you have it fully loaded - like I obviously do- but you're injuring your shoulder/back carrying that much stuff anyway, so think of it as a gentle reminder to not be a bag lady. I get constant compliments on it and the matte gray goes with literally everything. I do wish there was another pocket, but not enough to give anything less than five stars. I've just learned to keep my feminine supplies in a make up bag instead of in the pocket with my pens/emergency snacks. If you're thinking about ordering this, do it. Even if you're entry level and it's a huge splurge -like it was for me- it's worth it.

The item arrived in a very timely fashion. The gift wrapping option that was selected produced a box with Madewell logo only, slightly disappointing for cost. The bag itself is of very nice quality with an average price point. Satisfied enough to give as a gift to a 25 year old.

I received this as a birthday present with the gold monogram. So many people have complimented the bag's color and styling. It's almost a dark brown/taupe in color so it stands out slightly with a black outfit. For sure a piece that I'll keep for a lifetime.

I really like my tote I can use it for my books or to carry as a large purse. People stop me to tell me how much they love my tote. I wasn't to sure of the color but once I received it in the mail I instantly fell for it!!!

I love this tote. This is my second one to purchase. I also have it in brown! I love that no two totes are exactly alike and that I can throw everything in for myself and my little one when we are on the go!

I bought this bag online on sale for less than $100. The leather is good quality, the grey color is nice, and the size is good (not too big). However, the bag is very heavy. I don't put much in it (a small wallet, a few reusable bags and my phone), and the straps still cut into my shoulder. :( I wish there were a magnet snap closure on top to keep the bag from falling open when I put it down.
